2 killed after Beacon Road crash identified
Two people were killed when the car they were in collided with a tree along Beacon Road in Penn Township on Saturday evening, July 25, township police have confirmed.
According to Butler County Deputy Coroner John Hanovick, the driver, Cody Lee Huffman, 38, of Harmony, died at the scene. The passenger, T.V. Garrett, 45, of Cranberry later succumbed to injuries at Butler Memorial Hospital.
According to Hanovick, autopsy results indicated “multiple traumas” to the two men.
The crash was first reported over Butler County Emergency Services dispatch shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday. According to Penn Township police officer Christopher Scalise, only one vehicle was involved in the crash, and there were no other occupants.
The crash is under investigation by the Penn Township Police Department. The department declined to provide additional details behind the circumstances that led to the crash. However, initial reports from eyewitnesses indicated the car was on fire at one point shortly after the impact.
Aside from the Penn Township Police Department, the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department, Middlesex Township Police Department and Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene.
