2 records may be broken this weekend in Zelienople, but there’s a hitch
Zelienople’s Fourth of July celebrations this weekend could see two world records be broken — that is, if the Zelienople Historical Society can find another videographer on time.
The organization has partnered with a group called RecordSetters to attempt reaching records for the number of people waving the American flag together and of the most individuals singing the national anthem at once.
Adel Fatur, Zelienople Historical Society board member, said the person who was supposed to document the event informed her on Tuesday that he would not be able to make it to the festivities. Fatur is searching for a replacement.
RecordSetters protocol requires a video of the record for an entry into its book.
The historical society has planned for 6,600 flags to be distributed before the parade starts, Fature said. Additionally, attendees can bring their own flags.
Fatur said both the records being broken would be important for the borough and its community.
“I just think (Zelienople) is a very patriotic town,” said Fatur. “We hope we can do it.”
The town’s patriotism was a deciding factor for a key component of the planned holiday activities. The Tomb of Unknown Soldier replica, which was in town back in 2022, is returning to Zelienople this weekend.
The tomb is owned and managed by the Americanism Committee of the Exchange Club of Rome, Ga.
Fatur said the club contacted her and said that “of all the states they’ve toured with the tomb, there’s been no town as patriotic and friendly as Zelienople and this is town that they wanted to come back for America’s 250.”
In addition to the tomb’s return, other plans for the weekend in or near Zelienople include free museum tours at the Lowrie, Buhl, and Passavant houses; historical reenactments; fireworks and parades. There is also a free Butler County Symphony concert set to take place at Cranberry Community Park.
Visitors can use a digital passport at events and historic landmarks throughout the week. Users are also entered into a drawing for Butler County gift cards by signing up.
