USPS asks homeowners to inspect mailboxes
The U.S. Postal Service asks all Butler homeowners to inspect and repair their mailboxes during Mailbox Improvement Week, Tuesday, May 19 through Monday, May 25.
This annual request is especially relevant because of last winter’s effects on mailboxes.
Some activities homeowners may need to do to repair their mailboxes include replacing loose hinges on a mailbox door, repainting a mailbox that may have peeling paint or rust, remounting a loosened mailbox post, or replacing or adding house numbers.
If a homeowner plans to install a new mailbox or replace a worn one, the new mailbox must be approved by the Postal Service. Custom mailboxes are allowed, but customers who want to use them must consult with Postmaster Victoria Bowser’s office to ensure their mailboxes follow all Postal Service guidelines.
For more information, contact your local post office or visit How to Install a Mailbox on the USPS website.
