Jameson Garvin blasts Mars baseball past Allderdice, Karns City duo goes yard, Knoch softball rolls: Roundup

Jameson Garvin had a pair of hits — including a home run — and four RBIs, helping to lead Mars’ charge during a 6-5 baseball win over Taylor Allderdice on Monday.

Colin Yurisinec added two singles and a double for the Planets.

Karns City 10, Mercer 0 — Brock Dittman and Cole Johnston both cleared the fences for the Gremlins during a five-inning win. Joey O’Donnell allowed one hit, struck out four and walked one while going the distance on the mound.

Central Valley 8, North Catholic 7 — The visiting Warriors tied matters at seven runs apiece in the top of the sixth, then went ahead during their next turn at the plate, wiping away Matthew Curtis’ three-hit effort for the Trojans.

North Allegheny 7, Seneca Valley 3 — Mason Fisher and Owen Voelp had two hits each for the Raiders, who fell behind in the bottom of the second and couldn’t recover.

Seneca Valley falls to 9-7 (4-4 in WPIAL Section 1-6A play) and will play the middle contest of the three-game bill with the Tigers at home Tuesday.

Freeport 12, Burrell 4 — Owen Westendorf pitched the entire game for the Yellowjackets, who also watched Gage Blystone go 3-for-4 at the plate, racking up four RBIs.

Slippery Rock 2, Titusville 1— Bryce Covert went six innings, allowed no earned runs and struck out nine in the victory.

Parker Dalcamo and Isaac McCandless recorded hits and scored runs for Slippery Rock (5-3).

Softball

Lizzie Danik, Lindsey Wise, McKenna Jones and Brooklyn Wise each had a pair of hits during Knoch’s 15-0 win over Highlands in three innings.

Danik and Wise both had a double, while Marlee Fraser legged out a triple. Wise, Fraser and Emersyn Jones combined in the circle to allow just two hits.

Fox Chapel 13, Mars 0 — The Planets’ 2-3-4-5 hitters — Alyson Mazurek, Callie Simoni, Alyssa Foltz and Edyn Giammatteo — each had a hit in the five-inning defeat.

North Catholic 17, Central Valley 5 — Clare Kotwica, Eva Rocha and Juliana Lehman each hit a home run for the Trojanettes, who disposed of the Warriors in five innings.

Dakota Hicks went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Flag football

Ava Pulliam passed for four touchdowns, with Miley Gratton snagging two of them, but Mars dropped a 52-34 decision to host Deer Lakes.

Arianna Rhedrick intercepted a pass and scored twice, and Frankie Searle pulled 27 flags.

Mia Gratton also scored for the Planets.

Boys lacrosse

Brayden Riddell and Owen Close each had hat tricks in Freeport’s 12-0 senior night win over Winchester Thurston.

Riddell added an assist, and Drew Ross dished out four to go along with a goal of his own.

Boys tennis

Ryan Conaway notched a singles win, but Butler was downed by Hampton 4-1.
