Trent Best, Jacob Szebalskie boost Butler to baseball win: Roundup

Trent Best and Jacob Szebalskie collected two hits apiece and combined for five RBIs as Butler beat Pine-Richland 6-1 in non-conference baseball play. Kyle Casteel pitched four innings, allowing four hits and striking out four while walking one.

Butler moves to 9-3 and begins a three-game WPIAL Section 1-6A series against Central Catholic at home at Pullman Park on Monday.

Hampton 6, Mars 3 — Timmy Joos had two hits for the Planets, who were done in by allowing four runs in the bottom third.

Softball

Halle Beatty and Taylor Grace both combined for four runs driven in as Moniteau downed Redbank Valley 5-2. Sydney Dematteis added three singles.

Lexi McGhee went the distance in the circle, allowing seven hits and walking two while striking out a dozen.

Boys tennis

Ryan Conaway and Carson Stewart both had solo wins and Anthony Stoops and Connor McGee notched a doubles victory as Butler beat Kiski Area 3-2 at home.

Girls lacrosse

Macey Edwards netted five goals and Alyssa Lovgren another three as Freeport defeated North Catholic 10-3. Layla Pegnato had a pair of goals for the Trojanettes.

Boys volleyball

Fox Chapel beat Mars in straight sets, by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-17.
