Adams Township implements new rule on garbage collection time

ADAMS TWP — The board of supervisors voted during its meeting on Monday night, Oct. 12, to amend the township’s current ordinance on garbage collection to limit hours of collection from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

According to township manager Mike Tylka, the township has recently received a wave of complaints from residents about garbage collection at inappropriate times.

“We were receiving numerous complaints that residential garbage collection was occurring as early as 3:45 in the morning,” Tylka said. “We reached out to several companies. They did not heed our requests politely to move that back. The complaints continued, which is why we're looking to put this ordinance into effect.”

Tylka declined to name which specific companies were the subject of complaints from residents.

Although the exact text of the ordinance amendment was not made available on Monday night, township Supervisor Russell Ford said it was modeled after similar ordinances in neighboring municipalities.

“We actually talked to some other municipalities to do some due diligence to make sure it’s pretty accurate,” Ford said.

Supervisors also voted to approve the adoption of the roads for the Camp Trees housing development, meaning all of the roads within the development are now official public roads that meet the township’s ordinances.

In early 2025, Camp Trees was the subject of a prolonged dispute between its developer, Weaver Homes, and Adams Township over fees due to the township to maintain the then-private roads for the winter.
