Police: Harmony man allowed child to drive vehicle that crashed into home

A Harmony man is being charged with child endangerment after police said he allowed a 14-year-old boy to drive a vehicle, which struck a house.

Zelienople police said the child was making a left turn in Harmony onto Mercer Street from Monroe Street on June 7 when he pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake. The Chevrolet Bolt then proceeded onto a sidewalk and into the home.

The boy’s father, Michael Lee Stockett, 43, was charged June 29 with misdemeanor child endangerment. Police said he was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of the crash.

The house sustained minor damage, and no injuries were reported.

Stockett’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 29 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
