Car ‘split in half’ on I-79 in Lancaster Township, at least three reported injured

At least three individuals have reportedly been injured in a crash on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township.

The accident occurred in the northbound lanes at the 91.8 mile marker. As a result, the northbound lanes was closed near Little Creek Road, according to Butler County Emergency Services, who reported the call shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to reports from Butler County Emergency Services dispatch, the crash involved a vehicle “split in half.”

Dispatches just after 4 p.m. indicated two people had been transported to Pittsburgh-area hospitals — one to Allegheny General, the other to UPMC Mercy.

As of 4:22 p.m., traffic was backed up for several miles and an exit near the crash site was closed. Route 19 was also shut down near the crash site.

Interstate 79 was reportedly reopened at about 5:30.
