Traffic jamming railroad work in Evans City should be short-lived

Traffic Alert DME

Work on a railroad crossing Thursday on Main Street in Evans City was expected to be completed by the end of the day.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is repaving the crossing near Pioneer Road, and Harrison Street is closed due to a Butler County bridge replacement project.

Combined, the projects caused a significant traffic back up.

Mayor Dean Zinkhann said the railroad work is being done because people complained about the bumpy crossing, and signs about the project were posted in advance.

Flaggers were in place to help direct traffic through the crossing, but the Harrison Street closure is exacerbating the traffic delays, said Lori Brooks, borough secretary.

She said the crossing work was expected to be completed by early evening Thursday, but Harrison Street will be closed for months.
