Evans City moves trick-or-treat up to 3 p.m. this year

Trick-or-treat will come a little early this year for residents of Evans City.

Borough council has decided to move the tradition to the 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. window on Halloween.

The decision was made at council’s monthly meeting on Monday night, May 4.

According to council President Cheri Deener-Kohan, the move to 3 p.m. is just for this year, because Halloween will fall on a Saturday. The move will give families time to plan other Saturday night activities while still being able to have their children trick-or-treat, Deener said.

“It's a Saturday and it's nice to have it out in the bright sun instead of in the dark,” Deener said. “That way, families can get done and if they want to take their kids out at night, they can. They'll be done by five o'clock and they can go out to dinner. They can go to a movie. They could do whatever they wanted to do for the rest of that evening and they don't have to worry about getting dressed up and coming out at night.”

Council also formally accepted Rob Reppert’s resignation from council during Monday night’s meeting. According to Deener, Reppert’s resignation is due to health reasons.

Reppert was first elected to council in 2021 and was reelected last November. His term was set to expire in 2029. No replacement for Reppert has been named yet.
