County schools win school safety awards

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency on Thursday awarded $47 million in competitive school safety and security grants to improve safety, security and mental health supports for students and staff at schools in and around the county and across the state. The awards complete the $155 million school safety grants program package appropriated in the 2023-24 budget.

√ The Butler Area School District received $222,340, including a $45,000 meritorious award and a $177,340 mental health award.

√ The Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School received a $70,000 mental health award.

√ The Karns City Area School District received $151,558, including a $35,000 meritorious award and a $116,558 mental health award.

√ The Mars Area School District received $182,189, including a $40,000 meritorious award and a $142,189 mental health award.

√ The Moniteau School District received $150,009, including a $35,000 meritorious award and a $115,009 mental health award.

√ The Seneca Valley School District received $233,899, including a $45,000 meritorious award and a $188,899 mental health award.

√ The Slippery Rock Area School District received $159,238, including a $35,000 meritorious award and a $124,238 mental health award.

√ The Knoch School District received $562,664, including a $40,000 meritorious award, a $125,222 mental health award and a $397,442 competitive award.

√ The Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District in Clarion County received $137,790, including a $30,000 meritorious award and a $107,790 mental health award.

√ The Freeport Area School District received $158,619, including a $35,000 meritorious award and a $123,619 mental health award.

√ Holy Sepulcher Catholic School and North Catholic High School received $75,000 and St. Wendelin School received $25,000.
