Mars middle schoolers take part in ‘Hatch the Chicken’ program

Eighth-graders at Mars Area Middle School will track the development of several fertilized chicken eggs in their science classes and care for the chicks after they hatch in May.

The “Hatch the Chicken” educational program held in Amanda Stavish and Michelle Weston’s science classes will teach students about the embryonic development and the cellular process of chicken eggs.

A livestream webcam has been set up to track the chick’s progress and can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cz65oJQhQc.

The chicks are expected to hatch around May 1. Students will care for the animals during the last two weeks of the program.

Equipment and materials for the project were provided through the Western Pennsylvania “Hatch the Chicken” program. For more information, contact Weston at 724-625-3145 or visit www.rentthechicken.com/p/western-pa-hatch-chicken.html.
