Ellwood City man accused of contractor fraud
An Ellwood City man is accused of failing to remodel a home in Harmony after accepting $75,000 for the job.
Zelienople police charged Robert Paul Connors, 55, Thursday, July 23, with one felony count each of theft and receiving advance payment and failing to perform.
Police said they were contacted July 9 about the incident and spoke with the homeowner July 13. The homeowner told police they made a verbal agreement to remodel a recently purchased home.
The homeowner paid Connors $75,000 between Oct. 7 and Oct. 23, 2024 for the work. Police said Connors cashed two related checks on Oct. 9 and Oct. 24, 2024 but failed to complete the work or refund the money.
Connors’ preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
