Crews from Butler, Allegheny and Beaver counties responded to a tractor trailer fire Thursday night, Aug. 6, on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cranberry Township, according to Butler County Emergency Services dispatch reports.

The fire was reported around 10:45 p.m. at the 28.5 mile marker on Interstate 76 westbound. Arriving crews confirmed a working fire in the trailer of the semi-truck and shut down the turnpike for a period of time.

Crews took about 40 minutes to get the fire under control, and the driver was able to disconnect the cabin from the trailer to limit the fire’s spread, according to dispatch recordings.

Multiple tankers had to be requested to fight the fire. Crews were on the scene for about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

It was unclear Friday morning what the tractor trailer was carrying.
