Harmony’s stormwater project nears completion
HARMONY — At Tuesday’s meeting, borough council voted unanimously to approve final change orders and invoices for the stormwater construction project.
The project involved implementing improved drainage from a low spot in the borough into Connoquenessing Creek with the intent of mitigating flooding on Mercer Street.
Greg Such, council president, said the construction work is almost complete.
“We have one little punch list thing to knock out and then we should be good,” he said.
Payments approved to the managing engineering firm, Gannett Fleming, amounted to $898,000 of which the county paid $90,000. The remainder was paid through Municipal Infrastructure Program grants.
The project cost $14,000 more than expected, which Such said “came pretty close for a project that was bid two years ago.”
Additionally, the borough is expecting Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant money soon for plans to redo the sidewalks in the borough’s square. The project is in conjunction with Zelienople’s Main Street renovations project.
“This is a long running project held up by PennDOT approvals and other regulatory approvals, mostly on the Zelienople side,” said Such.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Councilwoman Beth Bruker-Walos’ resignation was announced. Bruker-Walos was sworn in earlier this year.
Such said at the meeting that there are two candidates for the vacant position.
As per the municipal code, the council has a 30-day window to appoint Bruker-Walos’ successor.
