The 5th annual Zelienople Bed Derby is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 2, at the Zelienople Community Park.

The community park presents a new, bigger venue for the derby, which has in the recent past been held on High Street.

“By moving to the park, we’re able to build on that tradition and create an even bigger community experience that families can enjoy together,” Tom Oliverio, mayor of Zelienople, said in a news release.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S., teams are recommended to adopt a patriotic theme for bed decorations and crew attire.

Also new this year — the event will not conclude at the end of the derby.

Live music and a selection of food trucks will be available after the races.

The derby will continue to be a fundraiser to help support the Zelienople Area Public Library’s programming and services.

This year’s event will also honor a past member of borough’s bed derby community.

Jason Sarver, the event’s longtime co-race director, passed away earlier this year. Sarver was a key contributor to the event’s growth in Zelienople, according to a news release.

Additional information about race registration details and event updates can be found at Zelienople Area Public Library’s website or at runsignup.com/zeliebedderby.
