Two authors lead book discussions at Cranberry Public Library this month

Two local authors will lead discussions about their latest historical books in June at the Cranberry Public Library.

The first is Jayson Kowinsky, author of “First Female Fossil Hunter: The Life and Legacy of Mary Anning,” who will visit Tuesday, June 9. The second is Jason Cherry, author of “William Trent: Factor of Ambition,” who will visit Tuesday, June 23.

“First Female Fossil Hunter” blends geology, paleontology, history and the story of one of the most remarkable fossil hunters in history. Readers meet other pioneering women of the era and see how they supported one another at a time when women were rarely welcomed into scientific circles, according to the Cranberry Public Library.

“William Trent” explores the life of the title figure and his forgotten place in 18th-century history. The book is a look through the eyes of a misunderstood backcountry merchant who overcame obstacles and suffered great loss, but whose interactions with Founding Fathers helped shape the U.S.

Both discussions will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 2525 Rochester Road, Suite 300, in Cranberry Township. Registration is required for both events, and can be done online, or by calling the library at 724-776-9100.
