North Catholic boys tennis’ season came to an end in one win short of its first PIAA Class 2A Team Championship Saturday afternoon.

District 10 champion Cathedral Prep beat the WPIAL runner-up 3-1 in the semifinals at Hershey Racquet Club.

The Doubles 2 pair of Jackson Schlegel and Dylan Bopp won the Trojans’ lone point, beating Sam English and Clark Brown 6-4, 6-2. Singles 1 player Justin Garvey lost 6-3, 6-3 to Gavin Ferretti.

Cathedral Prep, a runner-up two years ago, went on to beat District 4 champ Jersey Shore 3-0 for the Class 2A title. WPIAL champion North Allegheny won the 3A title 3-1 over District 1’s Conestoga.

The Trojans have made states each of the last six years, and the semifinal appearance is the farthest they have gone during that stretch.
