Freeport baseball stays on fire with win vs Burrell; North Catholic lacrosse routs Knoch: Roundup

Thanks to the hitting stylings of Gavin Tola, Ashton Bricker and Trey Schreckengost — each of whom had a pair of knocks — Freeport remained hot Tuesday by downing Burrell 8-3.

Along with collecting two RBIs, Gage Blystone went 6.1 innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs while striking out four.

Butler 2, Central Catholic 0 — Nolan Stefaniak had two hits, including a double, and drove a run in during the Golden Tornado’s win. He also went 6.2 innings on the mound, allowing just one hit while striking out 11 and walking three.

Moniteau 10, North Clarion 0 — Carson Minnear and Weston Cook both had a pair of hits as the Warriors powered by the visitors in six innings. Over its last four outings, Moniteau has scored 31 runs and allowed four.

North Catholic 7, Central Valley 2 — Landon Petok banged out three hits, scored two runs and drove another across for the Trojans. Petok had a double among his knocks, while Landon Eifler went five innings toeing the rubber, allowing three hits, no runs and striking out three.

Indiana 2, Knoch 1 — The Knights managed just three hits — two of which came from Mason Heller — in a low-scoring affair. Zane Pacek still went the distance on the bump, striking out seven and allowing two free passes.

Taylor Allderdice 7, Mars 4 — Five different Planets had a hit in the loss, including Colin Yurisinec’s double.

Clarion 11, Union/A-C Valley 0 — The Falcon Knights were no-hit in the six-inning defeat.

Softball

Lily Staab had three hits, and Halle Beatty, Danilynn Wallace, Emma Fitzingo and Lexi McGhee each had two as Moniteau racked up 14 in total and got past Forest 10-7. Staab notched a home run and Alyssa Thompson a triple with the offensive display.

Slippery Rock 9, Oil City 8 — Aubrie Knight powered the Rockets with four hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Grace Greer and Brooke Madden also pushed two runners across.

Track and field

Lydia Springirth won the 100- (16.9) and 300-meter hurdles (50.1) and the high jump (5-1) as Slippery Rock’s girls got past Mercer 88.5-61.5. Samantha Montgomery added victories in the long jump (15-11) and triple jump (34-5.5).

Slippery Rock (boys) 92, Mercer 44 — Hunter Doerflinger placed first in the 1,600 (5:02) and 800 (2:19).

Girls lacrosse

Gabby Hervert had four goals as North Catholic beat Knoch 15-5. Kate Geary added another three for the Trojanettes, while Olivia St. John had two. Emily Birchok had five saves in goal.

Quaker Valley 18, Freeport 7 — Macey Edwards had three goals for the Yellowjackets.

Boys tennis

Three Cranberry-area doubles teams qualified for the WPIAL doubles championships but did not make it out of Day 1.

Mars senior duo Cal Johnson and Jaxon Hittle lost in the first round of the Class 3A tournament 10-2 to Franklin Regional. North Allegheny and Mt. Lebanon will battle for the title Wednesday.

The North Catholic pairs of sophomores Jake Sinclair and Paddy McCabe and seniors Alex Weber and Lenny Splane lost in the first round to Greensburg Salem and Blackhawk, respectively. South Park and Winchester Thurston duos will face off in Wednesday’s title match.

Boys volleyball

Andrew Slaugenhoup tallied 11 kills and Avery Rudolph 20 assists as Butler defeated Pine-Richland, 3-1. Match scores were 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15.

Zane Steimer contributed three aces and five blocks for the Golden Tornado (12-2, 4-2). Maddox McCall had 12 digs. Butler travels to North Allegheny on Thursday.

Beaver County Christian 3, Mars 1 — The scores of the match were 25-13, 25-13, 24-26 and 25-22.

North Catholic 3, Aquinas Academy 0 — The Trojans won by set scores of 25-8, 25-19 and 25-16.

Seneca Valley 3, Fox Chapel 0 – No further details were provided from this Raiders sweep.
