A seat on Zelienople Borough Council is vacant as Councilman Steve Schoppe recently stepped down from his role.

Schoppe’s resignation was “reluctantly and unanimously” accepted by council at its Monday meeting, said Cindy Edwards, assistant borough manager.

Council has 30 days after Oct. 12 to appoint a replacement, Edwards said.

Schoppe told the Butler Eagle he and his family relocated outside borough lines, which led to his decision to resign.

He described Zelienople’s community as “involved” and “passionate.”

“Since we are still only a few minutes away, Zelie will always feel like home to me and I fully plan to stay active in the community,” said Schoppe.
