Middlesex police K-9 to receive body armor through donation
Steki, Middlesex Township Police Department’s K-9, will be safer on duty in the coming weeks after a nonprofit stepped in to donate a protective vest.
According to a news release from the department, Steki will receive a U.S. made, custom-fitted bullet and stab protective vest from Vested Interest in K9s — a nonprofit dedicated to supplying vests to K-9s across the country.
Steki’s vest was sponsored by Rich-Mar Rotary Club of Mars and will be embroidered with “This gift of protection provided by Rich-Mar Rotary.”
Delivery is expected within 10 weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s has provided more than 6,677 vests valued at $6.9 million to K-9s in all 50 states. The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old, actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies.
