Boozel seeking reelection to Democratic State Committee

Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel

Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel announced Thursday, Feb.19, he is running for a second four-year term on the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee.

The committee acts as the governing body for the Democratic Party in the state, responsible for endorsing statewide candidates, holding nomination conventions, electing party leadership, adopting the party platform, and setting campaign strategies. Meeting three times a year in Harrisburg, the committee also manages party finances, recruits candidates, and supports local organizations in voter turnout efforts.

Boozel said he enjoys serving on the committee because it helps him keep abreast of developments in Harrisburg and across the state.

“I just like staying connected so I can help Butler County,” Boozel said.

Based on population, the county has three representatives on the committee, and four people are running for those positions, he said.

Incumbents Karen Barbati and Lou Hancherick are running for reelection, and Phil Heasley also is running.

The candidates are circulating petitions to get the 100 signatures required for their names to appear on the ballot for the May 19 primary.

Boozel said committee members are elected in the primary, unlike other offices in which candidates are nominated in the primary and elected in the general election.

He noted that some people saw his social media post about running for the committee and mistakenly thought he was leaving his county commissioner’s position.
