Butler man charged with aggravated assault following drug raid

A Butler man is facing charges in connection to an incident that occurred during a drug raid shortly before noon Wednesday in Butler.

Butler City police on Thursday charged Joshua McDougall, 41, with felony aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor resisting arrest and use or possession of drug paraphernalia after he allegedly struck an officer in the face while trying to flee from an apartment.

According to an affidavit, Butler City police and Pennsylvania State Police executed a search warrant at 221 N. Washington St. following an incident earlier that morning.

As officers prepared to enter the residence, they saw two people running from the apartment before using forcible entry to go inside, the affidavit said.

Police then encountered McDougall attempting to escape.

According to police, McDougall struck an officer in the face with a closed fist. The same officer also suffered a serious right hand injury as a result of the incident, according to the affidavit. He was then forced to the ground, where he continued to resist arrest despite multiple officers trying to contain him.

After his arrest, McDougall was found in possession of a burned glass pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine, police said.

He was taken to the Butler County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
