Farmers market vouchers available in Butler County for senior citizens

Butler County senior citizens can receive $25 in farmers market vouchers if they earn under $28,953 annually, or under $39,128 if married.

The county received vouchers to serve 2,900 people who are age 60 and older, the same amount as previous years, said Brittany Gilfillan of Butler County Area Agency on Aging.

However, this year, the amount is back to $25. Last year, the vouchers were $50 due to COVID-19 funds from the now discontinued American Rescue Plan Act, Gilfillan said.

Seniors must complete an application, then can collect vouchers from community distribution sites on scheduled days. Remaining vouchers will be available at the agency office on July 21, but Gilfillan urges seniors to go to the nearest distribution center.

The vouchers can be used for vegetables, herbs and nontropical fruits from participating Pennsylvania farms. Vouchers are worth $5 and multiple vouchers can be used at once.

This year’s vouchers will be invalid after Nov. 30 and are not available to people residing in care homes that provide meals.

More information is available at 724-282-3008 or online at ButlerCountyPA.gov.

See schedule below for details on when and where to pick up vouchers.
