Mars Area School District finds no danger to students following second threat in 2 weeks in bathroom

Mars Area School District found no threat to its students and staff after finding another threat written on a bathroom wall — this time in Mars Area Elementary School.

A message to Mars Area families and staff said administration was notified Wednesday, Oct. 21, about threatening statements written on a bathroom mirror in the elementary school.

An investigation from administration and school security confirmed the statements were written by an elementary student but found no danger.

“The safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priority, and we take all concerns of this nature seriously,” read the message sent from administration at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The threat came less than a week after a person was arrested Thursday, Oct. 15, related to a different threat written in the bathroom of Mars Area High School. The person arrested has not been identified.

That threat was discovered Tuesday before the arrest. It referred to an undisclosed event that would happen Friday, Oct. 16.

Law enforcement conducted a security sweep of the high school the day the threat was discovered and found no danger. Seven different bomb squads and bomb-sniffing dogs swept the building that afternoon.

However, out of caution, the high school had “enhanced security measures in place” and had an additional security sweep conducted before classes started Friday.

Previously, a swatting incident on Sept. 30 caused many Butler County school districts to temporarily lock down.

Attempts to reach superintendent Mark Gross on Friday morning were unsuccessful.
