A Lancaster Township man is accused of breaking into a Jackson Township police officer’s home in Zelienople.

Tyler Stephen Mitro, 32, was charged Saturday, Sept. 19, by Zelienople police with one felony count each of trespassing and burglary following an incident Saturday.

Police said the Jackson Township officer was already on scene when Zelienople police arrived. His wife had called him to report a man was inside their residence and refused to leave, according to charging documents.

Police said the woman awoke to loud banging coming from the first floor of the home. She then found Mitro standing in the kitchen. Police said Mitro repeatedly refused to leave but eventually walked outside and stood on the back porch.

The Jackson Township officer soon arrived and apprehended Mitro, who was still on the back porch, police said. Mitro showed signs of impairment during the incident, according to charging documents.

Mitro is being held in Butler County Prison on a $25,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 30 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
