An elderly woman died following the cement truck rollover crash Thursday, Sept. 17, on Mars Evans City Road, according to Callery Volunteer Fire Company officials.
Assistant Chief Randy Hoffman Jr. said his crew got word while cleaning up the crash Thursday that the elderly woman extricated from the Subaru that collided with the cement truck succumbed to her injuries after being transported to AHN Wexford Hospital.
“Our thoughts are with the families, friends and everyone affected by today’s tragic incident,” the fire company said in a statement on Facebook.
The woman has not yet been identified. Hoffman said emergency personnel checked her at the scene and observed only minor injuries.
The crash occurred around 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Evans City Road and Myoma Road, according to Butler County Emergency Services dispatch records.
In addition to the rolled over cement truck, the Subaru sustained heavy front-end damage. Hoffman said it appeared the cement truck had begun to drive up onto the front end of the Subaru before it flipped.
The cement truck driver was able to exit the truck himself, according to information from the fire company. Quality EMS transported the elderly woman, who was the passenger of the Subaru, and its driver to the hospital.
Emergency personnel remained on scene for five hours until 7:15 p.m. cleaning up the scene. The affected areas of Evans City Road and Myoma Road were closed for the duration.
Hoffman said since the truck was full, there was a lot of cement to clean off the road. PennDOT was contacted and lent equipment to scrape the concrete off the road after McGann & Chester Towing and Heavy Duty removed the cement truck.
Adams Township police, the Adams Area Fire District and Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
