Southern Butler County under severe weather warning

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued a statement at 3:44 p.m. announcing all or parts of Butler, Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Lawrence and Westmoreland counties remain under a severe thunderstorm warning until at least 4:30 p.m.

Areas of Southwest Butler County are warned to expect severe storms.

According to the NWS, severe thunderstorms were located along a line from about 6 miles northwest of Butler to Bethel Park moving east at abour 35 mph. Law enforcement has reported trees and power lines down in the Zelienople area.

The NWS warns residents to expect damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Residents are advised to seek shelter inside a well-built structure away from windows, preferably on the lowest floor of the building.

The NWS warns to expect potentially damaging winds that can cause significatn wind damage. The service said a tornado is not immediately likely, but possible.
