Two Butler County townships have received nearly $850,000 in funding from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation through the Green Light Go grant program, which provides funding to Pennsylvania municipalities to upgrade or replace their traffic signals.

Cranberry Township received $530,000 to replace existing traffic signals at the intersection of Route 19 and Dutilh Road/Brandt Drive. According to township manager Dan Santoro, this represents only a portion of the improvements planned for the intersection in the near future, with the overall project estimated to cost between $1.5 and $2 million.

“We have other grant funds already dedicated to that intersection,” Santoro said. “It's a total update to that traffic signal and that intersection. It includes pedestrian improvements. It includes new signal poles on both sides. It’s a much larger project than the $530,000 we received and that’s because we had previously received other grant funds.”

Meanwhile, Butler Township received $316,245.60 to modernize traffic signals at the intersection of Route 8 and Beech Road.

“It’s a full traffic signal replacement with new poles and mast arms, a new electrical service and new light heads,” said Butler Township manager Tom Knights.

In total, PennDOT distributed $38 million in Green Light Go grants to 86 municipalities across Pennsylvania in this round of funding.
