A nearly 100-year-old Butler County fuel distributor has officially entered the ice cream space.
Purvis Brothers of Mars opened ice cream shop Cosmic Treats & Sweets within the former Mars Pizza at 509 Pittsburgh St.
The menu features a changing selection of 16 homemade flavors of hard ice cream, soft serve, banana splits, sundaes, milkshakes, floats, parfaits and other handcrafted desserts.
Purvis Brothers owner and president Mac Purvis, Jr. said when Mars Pizza moved to its new location in June 2025, he wanted to repurpose the building.
“I think it is doing very good,” Purvis said. “We tried to make it a real draw. We make our own ice cream on site. We serve products from blended ice cream products to milkshakes and sundaes.”
Purvis Brothers already has its hand in the convenience store space with four Planet Mart locations throughout Butler County. To Purvis, ice cream was the next logical step for the business.
“Our convenience stores have always emphasized food service as a big feature,” Purvis said.
Cosmic Treats & Sweets is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. year round.
