A 75-year-old Jackson Township man was charged with stalking and assault after an early morning standoff in Zelienople.

Kenneth Arthur Hughes was charged Sunday, July 19, by Zelienople police with two misdemeanor counts each of terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment, and one misdemeanor count each of stalking and weapon possession following the incident early Sunday.

Police said they were dispatched to Creekwood Drive on Sunday for reports of a disturbance. A man and woman told police they arrived at a residence, and Hughes pulled in behind them and pointed a gun at them.

Police said Hughes threatened to kill the man and woman. When the woman attempted to call 911, Hughes smacked her in the face and took her phone, police said.

The woman was then able to grab her firearm from the vehicle and aim it at Hughes, police said. The two pointed guns at each other while the other man at the scene called 911. Police said Hughes then threw the woman’s phone into the grass and left the area.

Hughes was unable to be located Sunday morning, police said. His preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
