ADAMS TWP — To commemorate nation’s 250th anniversary, nine of Adams Township Community Park’s 100 acres was picked as the setting.

At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, crowds started trickling into the park in despite temperatures in the 90s for what was the park’s first large scale event since the end of COVID-19, according to Mike Tylka, township manager.

“I’ve only been here over a year, so I haven’t been part of any of those past events,” said Tylka. “This is kind of a reintroduction.”

As for the event itself, the celebration featured food trucks, beverages from three local breweries and booths with local representatives of nonprofit organizations.

Attendees also watched live musical performances from the bands Buck Wild and The Hit List.

The event wrapped up with fireworks at 9 p.m.

Other activities included the park’s splash pad, a kid zone with games, bingo at the park’s War Memorial Pavilion and cornhole set up next to a beer garden, which provided shelter from the sun early in the event.

“This is really just a township event to bring the community together to celebrate 250 years of our country,” Tylka said.

Tylka and other township officials — including Brian Perry, parks and recreation director, and township supervisors Darryl Brandon, David Goodworth and Ronald Nacey — also gave remarks at the main stage.

“This is an event where we look back and express our appreciation and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the greatest country in the world,” said Goodworth.

He encouraged visitors to go see the war memorial at park.

Tylka said in his speech, “We are a few days early, but (the semiquincentennial) is something truly worth celebrating for several days, months, years and lifetimes.”
