Butler County Community College’s main campus is being overrun this summer for Kids on Campus summer camps for students in grades 1-8.

Classes are running this summer for six weeks, from June 15 to July 27. Children are split into three categories based on age for classes that run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This week, students in first grade are learning about all four seasons through science and art projects.

Students in grades 2 through 4 have three classes to choose from. The first class teaches them how to prepare a variety of meals in the kitchen with the option to take leftovers home. The second class, titled Cardboard Creations, fosters teamwork in turning cardboard boxes into sculptures and forts. The third and final option for the week is the Create Your Own Carnival class. Children in the class can create their own carnival, complete with games, balloons and face painting. Once completed, they get the chance to test out their creations.

Students in grades 5 through 8 also have a choice between three classes. The first of which is a mixed media class, where students can experiment with objects, styles and techniques. The second class is for the Lego product lovers. Students are given Lego bricks and STEAM techniques to create simple machines and structures to solve specific problems. The Outdoor Adventures class, the third choice, explores the nature surrounding the BC3 main campus to teach students about animal species, camping and more.

The rest of the camp will include similar classes about art, science and nature. Future classes include a mock trial camp and music-based classes for aspiring musicians.

Afternoon snacks are provided. Students are advised to bring a lunch, water bottle and backpack. First-grade students also are encouraged to bring a change of clothes. Parents enrolling their students in the camps also have the option to sign up for before and after camp care for an extra fee.
