Butler County’s dog warden has issued 48 citations so far this year and reported a large increase in dog license sales.

The citations issued by Butler County Dog Warden Cole Redrup since Jan. 1 include 27 in Butler, 11 in Slippery Rock, five in Sarver, two in Lyndora and one in Chicora. Most of the citations were for dogs not being under control or failure to license, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture spokesman.

In May, dog license sales in the county significantly increased by more than 200% compared to the same period last year. The department attributed the increase to its renewed emphasis on outreach.
