Butler baseball crushes North Hills to win 3rd in a row, Knoch, Mars, Freeport claim victories: Roundup

Boden Lenyk, Trent Best, Nolan Stefaniak, Jacob Szbalskie and Ryan Rattigan all had multi-hit efforts for Butler baseball, which needed only five frames to dispatch WPIAL Section 1-6A foe North Hills 13-1 Monday.

Stefaniak went all five innings on the mound for the Golden Tornado (4-1), permitting two hits and no earned runs while striking out seven and walking two.

Knoch 13, Greensburg Salem 1 — Dylan Roth had a monster day for the Knights, roping three hits — including a three-run homer — and driving in seven runs.

Zane Pacek pitched the whole five innings for Knoch, allowing three hits, an unearned run and striking out six.

Mars 4, New Castle 3 — Connor Summit’s single scored Ryan Walker in the bottom eighth, earning the Planets an extra-inning win.

Freeport 5, Ligonier Valley 4 — Trey Schreckengost had a pair of knocks, including a double, in the Yellowjackets’ win.

Owen Westendorf posted five innings of work for Freeport, allowing three earned runs and striking out three.

North Catholic 17, Carrick 2 — Luca Guzowski had two singles and three RBIs for the victorious Trojans.

Central Catholic 7, Seneca Valley 3 — Brandon Godleski, Kayden Cahall and Micah Olayer had the only three hits for the Raiders (4-3), who host the Vikings on Tuesday.

Softball

Clare Kotwica had a home run and three RBIs, and Juliana Lehman and Addy Gray each had double and two runs driven in as North Catholic downed Hopewell 11-3.

Hempfield 5, Seneca Valley 2 — Neve Miller registered a pair of hits, including a double.

Cloudland (Tenn.) 6, Freeport 5 — The Yellowjackets fell in nine innings at this Myrtle Beach matchup despite Addi Gourley’s three hits and an RBI.

Canon-McMillan 14, Butler 2 — The Golden Tornado was three-hit in the defeat. Alexis Myers notched a pair of singles.

New Castle 21, Mars 7 — Sophia Soltis had a homer, and Edyn Giammatteo and Tessa Simoni doubled in the Planets’ five-inning setback.

Girls lacrosse

Kate Geary scored four goals and Sammy Brennan added three as North Catholic defeated Sewickley Academy 13-12 in double overtime.

Olivia St. John found the net twice for the Trojanettes. Maddie Hill made 12 saves to earn the win.

Mars 22, Hampton 1 — Scoring multiple goals for the Planets were Katie Blake (six), Hailey Long (three), Lucy Balazs (three), Anna McGrath (three), Jenna Smith (two) and Tess McGrath (two).

Boys lacrosse

Gavin Danehy and Toby Webb both scored for Knoch in a 20-2 loss to Mars.

Boys tennis

Despite straight-set victories from singles players Justin Garvey and Jake Sinclair, North Catholic fell to Blackhawk 3-2.

Pine-Richland 5, Butler 0 — The Rams scored a sweep in WPIAL Section 2-3A action.
