County commissioners reallocate CDBG funds

Butler County Courthouse Seb Foltz/Butler Eagle

The Butler County commissioners on Wednesday, March 25, modified Community Development Block Grant funding for projects in three townships.

In Jackson Township, $57,460 in 2023 CDBG funding for housing rehabilitation and $30,000 in funding for a waterline lateral project were reallocated to the Saltarka Lane Reconstruction project, which is expected to be completed this year.

No residents requested money for housing rehabilitation projects. The waterline project later fell through after only two people applied, and only one qualified, said Wendy Leslie, CDBG coordinator.

Leftover 2022 CDBG money totaling $27,149 from the Marion Township reservoir project was reallocated to the Slippery Rock storm sewer project, which will now have $101,441 in funding and is expected to be completed this year.

In Penn Township, $51,635 in 2023 CDBG funding for housing rehabilitation was reallocated to the demolition of a home this year. The demolition fund will now have $86,635.

Other grants

In addition, the commissioners voted to submit a contract amendment request for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to extend the March 31 deadline for three years to close out the grants awarded for the Allegheny-Clarion Valley Business Park water and wastewater replacement project.
