Butler baseball shuts out Shaler; Knoch boys lacrosse wins in blowout; Freeport softball cruises: Roundup

Kyle Casteel and Blake Scott combined to shut out Shaler on three hits in Butler’s 10-0, five-inning baseball victory at Pullman Park on Friday.

Casteel pitched the first four innings, struck out nine and walked one.

Nolan Stefaniak had two hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Mavrik Clement hit a home run for Butler.

Knoch 11, Kiski Area 1 — Dante Pelloni went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and four batted in for the Knights, who won in six innings.

Hunter Lang earned the pitching win by working five scoreless innings, striking out eight, walking three and surrendering two hits.

Brady Linamen singled and doubled for Knoch.

Freeport 13, Armstrong 2 — Trey Schreckengost doubled, tripled and collected three RBIs for the Yellowjackets. Kason Barker had three hits and three RBIs.

Karns City 8, Severn School (Md.) 7 — In a game played in South Carolina, Joey O’Donnell hit a home run and collected six RBIs for the Gremlins.

With the game tied at six after four innings, Xavier Bartoe allowed one run over the final three frames for the Gremlins.

Softball

Freeport scored four runs in the first inning and cruised to a 7-1 win at East Allegheny.

Taelyn Toy had two doubles, two RBIs and scored a run.

Ali Smith and Mady Bell teamed up to hold the Wildcats to just the one run on five hits, striking out nine and walking one.

New Castle 11, North Catholic 6 — Mary Kotwica, Dakota Hicks and Addy Gray each had two hits for the Trojanettes.

Fox Chapel 15, Butler 0 — Alaina Garbinski, Kaylan Garbinski and Kyra Olivares accounted for Butler’s three base hits in this four-inning defeat.

Boys lacrosse

Knoch opened the game on fire, outscoring Avonworth 9-0 in the first quarter en route to a 14-1 victory.

Gavin Danehy scored three goals in the onslaught and Tyler Edwards added two.

Tobias Webb, Jake Jones, Andrew Ross and Jack Reen all scored once and added an assist.

Boys tennis

Justin Garvey, Alex Weber and Jake Sinclair all earned singles wins, while the pairings of Paddy McCabe and Dylan Bopp and Lenny Splane and George Gabriel also came out on top in North Catholic’s 5-0 win over Knoch.
