ICE continues Cranberry Township-area operations

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in and around Cranberry Township continue to result in individuals being detained, and occasionally, such incidents are publicly documented.

Video posted on social media by Frontline Dignity show the Butler County sheriff’s office assisted ICE Tuesday morning, March 17, during operations in Cranberry Township that resulted in the detainment of more people.

Frontline Dignity is a Western Pennsylvania organization that shares documented ICE activity and aims to provide support for communities impacted, particularly the families of those that have been detained.

The first incident occurred around 9 a.m. in a parking lot near Cranberry Square, just outside of the Walmart Supercenter and the Harbor Freight hardware store. The video shows a man being arrested by ICE agents and put into a white van.

The second incident occurred around 10 a.m. outside of Felson Apartments, a complex along Brandt Drive across the street from Costco. The video shows Butler County sheriff’s vehicles present while a man is being detained.

Documenting ICE activity in Butler County has proven difficult. Groups like Frontline Dignity say, while they post videos that are shared with them and verified, more activity goes on than the public sees.

About a month ago, a news release said ICE had arrested 36 undocumented immigrants in collaboration with the Butler County sheriff’s office since November. This included operations in the county that resulted in the arrest of undocumented immigrants from Brazil, China, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, according to the release. It is unknown how many people in Butler County ICE has detained without the assistance of the sheriff’s office.

In the news release, officials claimed those detained included people previously arrested with crimes ranging from failure to obey law enforcement to organized violent crime.

The incidents Tuesday morning are the most recent in a monthslong partnership between ICE and the Butler County sheriff’s office. County Sheriff Mike Slupe declined to comment Tuesday.

ICE activity in the Cranberry area has been documented since last summer. Frontline Dignity told the Butler Eagle in recent months, it was noticing increased activity in neighborhoods north of Pittsburgh, through Wexford and into the general Cranberry area.

“It’s been really busy lately,” Jaime Martinez, Frontline Dignity’s executive director, said. “We’ve gotten a lot of calls. We’ve seen a lot of activity happening everywhere.”

Nationally, hundreds of thousands have been arrested since January 2025, with outlets across the country reporting on documented workers being detained.

When Emiliano’s Mexican restaurant had two of its locations raided, one in Cranberry, in August, workers said those detained were not told where they were being taken and that agents entered the restaurant masked and did not show a warrant until after the detained individuals were taken away.
