Butler’s Landon Slear finishes 11th in New Balance nationals; North Catholic flag wins opener: Roundup
Butler track and field freshman Landon Slear ran 1:59.60 in the 800-meter race during the New Balance National Championships in Boston.
Slear, who competed in the boys freshman division Friday, finished 11th in the race. His time is one of the top-10 fastest in Butler program history, according to head coach Mike Seybert.
Seneca Valley (girls) defeats Shaler 111-16, boys 118-9 — The boys’ Dakari Payne won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.76 in Friday’s season opener, long jump in 20-6.5 and triple jump in 44-10. On the girls’ side, Victoria Stewart won the 100 hurdles in 17.11 and the 300 hurdles in 51.86.
North Catholic won its season opener Friday 26-19 over Ellis School. It is the first season the PIAA is sanctioning the sport.
Gabbie Valentine threw three touchdowns for the Trojanettes and converted two one-point conversions. Simone Sharpless caught and ran for touchdowns, and Riley Marsico and Lizzie Fabian also caught TD passes.
