Women found dead in Jackson Township identified
Police have released the names of two women who were found dead at a Jackson Township home earlier this week.
Amy Byrd, 63, and Lanaya Lewis, 19, were found with gunshot wounds at 209 Dior Drive in Jackson Township on Wednesday, March 4, after a relative, A.C. Byrd Jr., 67, tipped police off to the location of their bodies from Illinois before killing himself.
Neighbors said the three were part of a family that had moved into the Jackson Ridge housing development around 2020.
“(They) were always so, so friendly,” a neighbor who had moved in around the same time said on Thursday.
A.C. Byrd Jr. was identified on Thursday by a representative of the Hillside Police Department in Illinois.
Police said A.C. Byrd Jr. called 911 Wednesday to report the two deceased individuals could be found at a house in Zelienople. He also told police that “a body” could be found in a field between two schools near where he called from.
Police found Byrd took his own life in the Illinois field.
The call prompted a welfare check at the Jackson Township home, where Jackson Township police discovered the bodies of Amy Byrd, 63, and Lanaya Lewis, 19, with gunshot wounds.
The investigation was then turned over to state police. Jackson Township police said there’s no threat to the community at large.
