Police: Woman deletes files from Evans City library servers

A former employee is accused of deleting historical, template and various other files from Evans City Public Library servers.

Evelyn L. Green, 31, of Renfrew, was charged Thursday, Feb. 26, by Evans City police with one felony count each of unlawful computer use and computer trespass following an Oct. 28 report.

Library staff contacted police to report someone had hacked into their system and deleted records and files. Library staff believed it was a retaliatory act, police said.

The library’s software company told them each file had to be deleted individually, police said. The deletions occurred over an about 14-hour period on Oct. 20 and 21. Police found one illegitimate account accessed the system during that time.

Police traced the account to Green, who reportedly admitted to the act. She left her library position in August.

Green’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 18 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
