Police: Mars man throws evidence from traffic stop

During a traffic stop, a Mars man attempted to tamper with evidence by throwing a substance over a house across the street, according to police.

Alexander Paul Kostial, 21, was charged Tuesday, Feb. 24, by Adams Township police with one misdemeanor count each of obstruction, tampering with evidence, DUI, marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia possession following a Monday traffic stop in Adams Township.

During the traffic stop, Kostial was asked to exit his vehicle and walk to the front of the police vehicle. While doing so, police said Kostial turned away from them and threw an unknown item over a residence across the street.

Kostial was immediately apprehended for tampering with evidence, police said.

Police quickly found the thrown item: a glass jar with THC wax.

Police had stopped Kostial’s vehicle on Kaufman Run Boulevard and noticed an “offensively strong odor” of cologne coming from the vehicle. Kostial also showed signs of impairment and had a smoking pipe in the vehicle, police said.

Kostial’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. March 11 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
