More information released on last week’s I-79 pileup
Pennsylvania State Police have released information on two additional vehicles involved the massive pileup, which occurred on Interstate 79 northbound in Jackson Township on Friday, Feb. 6, and led to the death of one motorist.
According to a newly released crash report, a 2021 Subaru Outback lost control while traveling north on the snow-covered I-79. A 2023 Ford F-150XLT struck the Subaru at both its 3:00 and 9:00 positions at about 10:30 a.m. The incident occurred at mile marker 84.4.
Pittsburgh native Evan M. Gingo was killed in the pileup while driving north in a Subaru Impreza, police said. The crash involving his vehicle occurred at 10:28 a.m. near mile marker 84.5 in Jackson Township.
Gingo’s vehicle collided with a trailer attached to the back of a Chevrolet Silverado, which was stopped on the road due to the previous crashes. Police said his Impreza lost traction on the icy road and slid into the attached trailer.
Although both vehicles in the later crash sustained only minor damage and were able to be driven away. State police said the driver of the Outback was charged with driving at unsafe speed, but that driver was not named in the news release.
