Donut Connection celebrates Fat Tuesday with specialty sprinkles

Lotoya Hartle picks out doughnuts for costumers at Donut Connection's Cranberry Township location on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Matthew Brown/Butler Eagle

With Mardi Gras serving as the last hurrah before Lent begins, Donut Connection in Cranberry Township geared up for high sales before many people give up their sweet treats.

The Cranberry Township location is celebrating its first Mardi Gras since opening in August. For the occasion, the store used themed sprinkles to match the colors associated with festivities — purple, gold and green.

Last Mardi Gras, managers at the Butler location said the day is always one with higher than normal sales as people stop by before they give up sugar or sweets for Lent. They said the store tries to do themed doughnuts on special occasions ranging from St. Patrick’s Day to April Fools’ Day.
