Police: Cranberry Township woman kicks officer during hotel removal
A Cranberry Township woman is accused of assaulting an officer when police attempted to remove her from a hotel.
Denise Kohley, 55, was charged Saturday, Feb. 7, by Cranberry Township police with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest and trespass following an incident the previous evening at Hampton Inn and Suites on Pendleton Way.
Police responded just after 5 p.m. Friday for reports of a woman in the hotel lobby who had been causing a disturbance for multiple guests. Police said Kohley would not stop screaming and crying throughout the main area of the hotel.
Police said she could stay at the hotel if she would stop the behavior, and they remained outside in case another disturbance occurred.
Police were called back in a short time later for Kohley causing a disturbance, and hotel staff asked for her removal.
Kohley reportedly refused to leave, so the police detained her.
Police said Kohley began flailing her arms and throwing her body while being handcuffed, and Kohley kicked an officer in the thigh and twisted her body to break free. Police said Kohley continued to resist when being placed inside the police vehicle.
Kohley’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday before District Judge Kevin Flaherty. She’s being held in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.
