Karns City girls reach KSAC finals; Mars boys’ season ends: Roundup

Hanna Dailey scored 14 points, including nine in the first quarter, in Karns City girls basketball’s 44-27 victory over Cranberry in the KSAC semifinals at Clarion University on Thursday.

Naomi Venesky also scored 14 points for the Gremlins (21-2), who will face Clarion-Limestone in the conference championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium.

Slippery Rock 48, Greenville 28 — The Rockets (17-4) claimed the District 10 Region 4 title outright by dominating the host Trojans (16-6).

Madison Romanovich scored 17 of her game-high 26 points in the second half. Brielle Jordan added 10 points.

Boys basketball

After trailing by 14 points three separate times in the third quarter, Mars cut its deficit to five in the fourth period before falling to host Latrobe, 57-46, in a WPIAL Class 5A preliminary round playoff game Thursday night.

Nick Santoro scored nine points to lead the Planets (9-14). Ian DeCerb tallied 15 points for the Wildcats (10-12).

Fort LeBoeuf 64, Slippery Rock 51 — Senior guard Casey Darr scored 20 points for the Rockets.

Bowling

Led by a 570 series from Daytn Kriess, Butler’s boys qualified for the regional tournament by tying Connellsville for 14th place at Wednesday’s WPIBL tournament.

The Golden Tornado and Falcons both finished with a score of 2,454. Plum won the team championship by defeating Hopewell in the final round.

Kriess’ single game scores were 159, 224 and 187. He placed 12th out of 141 individual bowlers.

Butler’s Matt Black (163-166-172-501) finished in 52nd place, and Connor St. Clair (180-147-148-475) placed 66th.

Hopewell’s Ayden Gault had the best individual effort with a 648 series.

Swimming

Slippery Rock dropped both meets against Oil City, the boys losing 84-42 and the girls 106-61.

Jordan Eckenrode won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle in the boys meet. For the Rocket girls, Gianna Savannah took the 500 free and backstroke.
