Cranberry officials move to secure county funding for 2026 Project of the Year
CRANBERRY TWP — Township supervisors at a meeting on Wednesday approved a grant application tied to funding for the Cranberry Foundation’s 2026 Project of the Year, which will bring a new fitness court to Graham Park.
Officials are seeking $10,000 from the Butler County Parks and Recreation Commission for new outdoor furniture that would surround the attraction.
“In and around that area we’re going to do a complete renovation which will include sort of a plaza seating area,” said township manager Dan Santoro. “This is to provide the furniture for that much larger project.”
The half-million dollar project, which is being done in coordination with the National Fitness Campaign, has been steadily progressing over the last several months, Santoro said.
“We’re in the midst of final design and we’re going to ask the board to go out and get some bids here to construct it pretty soon,” he said. “We expect to be constructing this spring.”
The court will provide “free access to premium fitness resources for individuals all ages and abilities,” according to the foundation’s website.
Although the National Fitness Campaign has built fitness courts nationwide, the Graham Park installation would be Butler County’s first.
Supervisors also authorized bids for several field improvement projects across the township under agreements with the Seneca Valley Soccer Association and the Seneca Valley Baseball and Softball Association.
That work includes new turf at the North Boundary Soccer Field and infield turf installations at Community Park Ballfields 3 and 4.
Santoro said officials should have a better timeline for the work as the weather improves.
“We hope to get them out on the street, get bids back and get going in the spring,” he said. “We’ve been letting all the turf companies know that the bids were coming.”
