Connoquenessing Twp advertises amendment to street and sidewalk ordinance

Connoquenessing Township supervisors voted to advertise an amendment to the municipality’s street and sidewalk ordinance during a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

The proposed change is tied to snow removal efforts and would mandate residents remove snow from sidewalks bordering their properties within 24 hours of a weather event. It also states all snow that is removed must be kept within a resident’s property.

Violations of the ordinance would be punishable as summary offenses and subject to fines ranging from $200 to $1,000.

Because it is a matter of public safety, the township also reserves the right to remove snow and ice from a property and hold the responsible parties accountable.

Residents will have an opportunity to provide public comment before supervisors consider final adoption at their next meeting on March 4.
