Dukes announces run for state representative in 12th district

Brandon Dukes, a Cranberry Township resident, has announced his candidacy for state representative for Pennsylvania’s 12th Legislative District.

According to a Wednesday, Jan. 21, news release from Dukes, the Democrat is pledging to “fight for working families, affordable living and a state government that puts people ahead of special interests.”

“Too many families in (the district) are working harder than ever and still falling behind,” Dukes said. “Rent is up. Groceries cost more. Health care is too expensive. Meanwhile, Harrisburg keeps looking out for the well-connected instead of the people who keep our communities running. I’m running to change that.”

He said that each and every municipality in the district is being “squeezed” by rising costs and a lack of real representation in the state legislature.

“This campaign is about everyday people finally having someone in Harrisburg who knows what it’s like to struggle and isn’t afraid to speak up. This district is changing and people are hungry for leadership that actually listens,” he said.

Dukes recently ran for Cranberry Township supervisor, where he lost by 1.2% of the vote. He said close results like that, alongside the district growing more competitive, shows the district is ready for new leadership.

Incumbent Rep. Stephenie Scialabba, R-12th, has not announced whether she will be running for reelection.
