MARS — Borough council gained two new members and lost one during its meeting on Monday night, Jan. 19.

Eric Pomeroy and Jim Garrity, who were elected to four-year terms in the November general election, were officially sworn in on Monday night.

Pomeroy, who works as a salesperson for Bimbo Bakeries, joined borough council in September 2025, filling the vacancy left by Robert Bost, who resigned after moving from Mars to Cranberry Township. Pomeroy was promptly reelected to a four-year term in the general election two months later.

“I’ve been a Mars resident for 17 years and my hope is just to improve the area of Mars and make things better for the people that live in the borough of Mars,” Pomeroy said. “I’ve always wanted to take part in an organized way in the borough.”

Garrity, who works as the director of public affairs for the East Central division of AAA, was not one of the three candidates who appeared on the ballot for borough council election. However, he received 38 write-in votes, just enough to grant him the final of the four seats that were up for grabs.

“I moved to the borough a couple of years ago with my wife and two kids,” Garrity said. “We love living in the borough of Mars and it gives so much to us. We want to see what we can give back. It’s such a vibrant community that has so much good already happening and there’s always potential for more. I want to see what I can do to make the borough even better than it already is, which is tough because it’s already pretty great.”

On the flip side, board member Christine Clutter resigned from her position to focus on her new role as secretary and treasurer for the borough. Bonnie Forsythe, the previous secretary/treasurer, will stay on as the assistant secretary/treasurer.

Clutter’s seat on council is currently vacant. The borough will request letters of interest from residents in an attempt to fill the seat by the end of February.
